Where we come from
We grew up in the neighborhoods surrounding Brooklyn Tech — the Fort Greene and Marcy housing projects, Bed-Stuy, and the blocks in between. Tech brought us together: nine young men from different corners of the borough who found in each other a standard to live up to.
After school, you could find us on the court at Emerson Park almost every day, or walking downtown to Albee Square Mall and Junior's for a slice of cheesecake. Those ordinary afternoons built something that lasted.
Decades of showing up for each other
In the years since graduation we built careers across education, engineering, law enforcement, transportation, information systems, and publishing. We also leaned on one another through hard times — losses, setbacks, and the long stretches when the only thing that helped was a brother picking up the phone.
That is what we mean by network. Not contacts on a list, but people who know your name, your history, and your worth — personally and professionally.
What BLASÉ stands for
Today BLASÉ is a social and philanthropic organization built around philanthropy, community events, fundraisers, special events, and personal development. In spirit we are kin to fraternal and civic organizations like the Divine 9, the Knights of Columbus, and the Masons — but rooted specifically in the Brooklyn Tech experience and the neighborhoods that raised us.
Our current mission
We are partnering with our alma mater, Brooklyn Technical High School, to fund scholarships for two graduating students each year — students who reflect the values of hard work, community, and ambition that carried us out of our own neighborhoods.
